Summary
A museum that teaches visitors about the history of shiro-mirin's birthplace.
Detailed description
Nagareyama City Museum, a project to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Nagareyama becoming a city, opened in June 1978. In addition to the regular exhibits of Nagareyama's history and folklore, there are also special expeditions on a wide range of themes.
Both Nagareyama's residents and first-time visitors can enjoy themselves here as they learn about the history of shiro-mirin and the city's connection to the Shinsengumi (a special military government police force that existed from 1863 until 1869).
The museum stands where the Katsushika prefectural government office was located from 1869 until 1871, and where the Inba prefectural government office was located from 1872 until 1873. These prefectures were the Meiji era predecessors to Chiba prefecture. A monument to these past historical prefectures stands next to the entrance of the museum.
